Zuhal Hashimi, MS, PPS, AMFT

Pupil Personnel Services credential in School Counseling, Associate Marriage Family Therapist

Associate therapists have completed their academic training for a masters degree and have worked with children and families for several years. In order to sit for their licensing exam, they have to be supervised for approximately 3000 hours after getting their degree. They are currently being supervised by one of our licensed clinicians to obtain these hours and complete this training. Supervision is a collaborative process and your child will have the support of two very capable clinicians.

3 years of clinical experience

Zuhal’s favorite part of working with clients is getting to know them and building a strong therapeutic bond. Her goal is to make sure each client feels like they have someone on their team who understands their struggles and believes in them. Zuhal wants to help empower her clients to better understand and appreciate their strengths while working toward their goals. She especially enjoys working with young people and families, and has experience working with elementary and high school students. As a school counselor, Zuhal has run group counseling sessions, individual sessions, and classroom lessons. She is most experienced with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Client Centered Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy.

Inspired By

As a child of refugees, Zuhal has seen the impact that mental health struggles can have on an individual, a family, and a community. She grew up fascinated by the human mind and the power that mental health support can have on one's well-being, especially when it comes to young people. Zuhal would often find herself gravitating toward helping roles, and she has always been interested in learning about and helping people discover the conditions that would allow them to thrive. Zuhal chose this path because it allows her to combine her curiosity for human nature, her passion for mental health, and her admiration for people's resilience into a career where she can challenge herself, help others, and feel fulfilled.

Her best friends live all over the country so if she’s not at a gathering with her family, you can probably find her Facetiming her besties!

She looks forward to all the new experiences, memories, and connections she'll get to create and is energized by the possibilities. In Zuhal’s day to day life, she strives to cultivate joy, gratitude, mindfulness, and peace of mind. She loves feeling connected to the world around her and tries her best to flow with the highs and lows that inevitably come her way.

Background

Zuhal grew up in the Tri-Valley and has lived here for most of her life. She completed her undergraduate career at UCSB where she made amazing friends, grew her passion for psychology and mental health, and learned a lot about who she is and what kind of person she wanted to be. During her time at UCSB, she worked as a peer counselor, volunteered as a research assistant for the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, and interned at a local mental health clinic. After graduating, Zuhal spent the pandemic as a Text Line Counselor for the Crisis Support Services of Alameda County before starting the MS Counseling program at CSU East Bay, where she elected to pursue both School Counseling and Marriage Family Therapy. During her time as a graduate student, she interned at multiple school sites and worked for CSU East Bay's Community Counseling Clinic. Zuhal now works as both a School Counselor and an Associate Marriage Family Therapist!
